Abhir Hathi | Goodies Sportive Thoughts II
Abhir Hathi is one of the most special upcoming stars from Spain. His music is something else, as he found his own path during the past years and learnt how to feed his inner self to the public. Abhir comes from Las Palmas, Gran Canaria and was shaped by the mix of the islands culture and his Indian heritage.
Grown up brown boy, that’s it. We’re glad to be enlisted between one of his favorite brands at the moment, showing us his love from the very beginning. We couldn’t wait to have a little time with him to speak about a few topics and share it with all of you in our second Sportive Toughts. We met with him in Madrid, where he now lives, and had the chance to have a walk around his area and shoot the beautiful films you can now enjoy in our socials.
Kiks: It can be felt in your music that your family and roots gradually took a more important place in your creative body. How important was to embrace your culture for you and how did it happen ?
Abhir: My family and my roots have been vital in this new body of work. I feel like, recently, I’ve become better at prioritizing and deciding what’s important to me and all this has been channeled through my music, my art and everything that I want to bring to the world. I feel like it comes with the age and the years, and this album wouldn’t have happened if I really hadn’t put them where they deserve, with is first place.
K: Brown boy from the Canary Islands. Wagwan with that ? How’s like to grow in such an environment?
A: My sense of identity and my sense of belonging were very much shaped by the islands. I feel like I’m lucky to have lived two cultures at the same time and, even though sometimes was difficult or conflictive, internally I feel like I’m a lucky guy. I love the islands so much that’s where I want to retire: that’s where I’m from and that’s what shaped my identity, my humor, the way I talk and even the way I dress. The clash of cultures there, for me, with the Hindi community and the local people from the islands is something that’s very rich and I’m very lucky to have lived. I won’t change it for anything.
